A New York Sour cocktail is a classic cocktail recipe that perfectly balances the caramel bourbon notes, citrus, and fruity red wine in one cocktail. This cocktail is gorgeous and it is always a crowd favorite!

Terms to know:

Dry shake: shake the cocktail without ice

Double strain: straining the cocktail through the cobbler shaker spout and a mesh strainer

Float: slowly pouring or “floating” a liquid onto a cocktail

How to Make a New York Sour

Add the lemon simple syrup, lemon juice, bourbon, and egg white to a shaker. Dry shake for 1 full minute then add in the ice and shake for 20 seconds. Double strain the cocktail into an old-fashioned or coupe class. Float in the red wine using the back of a spoon.

Description

A New York Cocktail is a wonderfully balanced cocktail made using bourbon, red wine, and creamy egg white.


Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 oz simple syrup
  • 1 oz lemon juice
  • 2 ounce Bourbon
  • 1 egg white
  • Ice
  • Red wine (Cabernet or any dry red wine)

Instructions

  1. Add the lemon simple syrup, lemon juice, bourbon, and egg white to a shaker. Dry shake for 1 full minute then add in the ice and shake for 20 seconds. Double strain the cocktail into an old-fashioned or coupe class.
  2. Float in the red wine using the back of a spoon.

Notes

Egg white substitution: aquafaba. You can always leave the egg white out if you don’t prefer it.
