Bourbon Brown Sugar Old Fashioned

4K

This Bourbon Brown Sugar Old Fashioned Recipe is a subtle sweet twist on the classic Old Fashioned cocktail. Old Fashioned ingredients are pretty standard; spirit, sugar, water, bitters, and this cocktail follows the same format but adds a flavor element much like the Spiced Apple Old Fashioned. In this cocktail we make a brown sugar simple syrup, bourbon, Angostura aromatic bitters, and of course ice for dilution. It’s perfect for holiday hosting, a cozy nightcap, and for pairing with desserts.

If you like these ingredients, the Blackberry and Brown Sugar Bramble and Rum Old Fashioned are two others that you may enjoy as well.

Bourbon – I recommend using what you drink the most and enjoy. Michters, Cooper’s Craft 100 proof, or if you want to use whiskey, I love Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey (any expression).

How to make a brown sugar syrup

To a small sauce pot, add the brown sugar, water, cinnamon sticks, and a pinch of salt. Over medium-high heat, bring the mixture to a boil and stir to ensure the sugar is dissolved. Reduce the heat to low and let the syrup simmer for 10-15 minutes then remove from the heat. Cool the syrup before using it in the cocktail then store it in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Making a Bourbon Brown Sugar Old Fashioned

Add the brown sugar simple syrup and bitters to a rocks glass, add in the whiskey, ice, and stir until you’ve reached the right amount of chill and dilution. Express the orange peel over the glass and enjoy.
